SALUKI CLUB OF GREATER SAN FRANCISCO 56th SPECIALTY
Sunday, October 6, 2024
Sweepstakes Judge:  Mrs. Rae Ann Hanna

Members of the Saluki Club of Greater San Francisco, thank you for your invitation to judge
Veteran and Puppy Sweepstake classes on October 6, 2024 at your 56th Specialty.
I was thrilled to be invited to step in as the alternate judge when the scheduled judge
needed to step aside and even happier to only have four weeks to worry about it!
I want to acknowledge and thank my husband, Patrick, for getting me there for a quick weekend …
it was fast and fun!

The show site, Sycamore Lane Kennels in Lodi, California, is perfect for a specialty.
The ring was “just right” … not too big not too small and the club had everything easily laid out
for exhibitors and spectators.  The only drawback would have come later in the day
when temperatures reached into the 100’s.

The quality of the Salukis presented today was excellent in movement, temperament and examination.
Each and every exhibit on this day displayed appropriate Saluki temperament with some more
aloof than others and I love nothing more than being ignored by a Saluki!

The first thing I look for is a silhouette that screams Saluki … a long neck, a deep chest swooping
into a well-defined tuck, well-muscled and strong topline announcing “I can do the job I was bred for”.
Upon physical examination (in addition to everything outlined in the Standard) dark almond shape eyes
and “angel wing” ears are features that always catch my attention!  The Saluki Standard,
while specific, allows for some interpretation which, in my opinion, makes our breed magical.

Puppies … you were wonderful!  It is heartwarming and reassuring to see the quality of the
youngsters that were presented.  Each one, obviously at a different stage of development, would be clearly recognizable as a Saluki to even an inexperienced bystander.  Our breed appears to be in good hands!

Veterans … you make it so hard to judge!  Each one is special in their own right and impossible not to love.
As we all know, Salukis grow more beautiful as they age and that statement was never truer than on this day.
I found all of the veterans to be in good, if not excellent, condition and placements could have been different on another day.

Thank you again for this opportunity.  It was my honor and pleasure to judge the sweepstakes
classes for your 56th Specialty!

Saluki Club of Greater San Francisco

Sunday, October 6, 2024

Judge: Lou M. Guerrero

I would like to thank the Saluki Club of Greater San Francisco for having me judge their 56th Independent specialty. I was delighted to have the opportunity to judge at this beautiful venue. The grounds with a lovely setting of a large pond, and grape vine orchards just across the way. Unfortunately, the weather was “103 degrees” there was plenty of tenting, large trees with shade lining on one side of the ring where I was able to assemble the exhibits. The exhibitors were such good sports the day of show. Thank you to the members, exhibitors, for giving me the opportunity to officiate at this special event. If you have not attended this event you’re missing something special.

In the classes there were only 5 dogs, 15 bitches. These are the times as many breeds from across the country numbers have dropped within the classes. Best of Breed always seems to have larger entries. But, in this competition the “quality was deep throughout.”

Bred By Exhibitor Adult Dog. (WD/BOW 5 dogs)

1.#15 Santana Impala Take it Easy. Beautiful head, eyes, expression. Long neck flowing smoothly into those laidback shoulders. Good front, deep chest, good underline, good feet. Outline on the stack was not overdone. Excellent conditioning. (DOG)

Open Bitch: (WB, 15 bitches)

  1. #46 Timaru Helena. This bitch caught my eye immediately. Lovely outline, correct size, feminine, lovely head, eyes, expression. Good moving.                                     Unfortunately, when she returned back in for BOB she did not perform (the heat) as she did in WB. (BITCH)
